This research study aimed to discover new facts, verify previously known findings and newline add further inputs to the existing knowledge available on the role of PCD and its reinforcement on fracture resistance of ETT. newlineThe key objectives of this research were: newline1) To devise an in vitro method for quantification of PCD in ETT. newline2) To study the effect of PCD on fracture resistance of ETT. newline3) To study the effect of loss in continuity of PCD on fracture resistance of ETT. newline4) To study the effect of nature of loss in continuity of PCD on fracture resistance of ETT. newline5) To study the effect of loss of external PCD on fracture resistance of ETT. newline6) To study the effect of loss of internal PCD on fracture resistance of ETT. newline7) To study the effect of reinforcement of remaining PCD on fracture resistance of ETT. newline8) To study the effect of restoration of loss in continuity and reinforcement of PCD on fracture resistance of ETT. newline9) To study the effect of reinforcement in teeth with loss of external PCD on fracture resistance of ETT. newline10) To study the effect of reinforcement in teeth with loss of internal PCD on fracture resistance of ETT. newline11) To derive clinical guidelines for initial assessment, restoration and reinforcement of endodontically treated teeth based on PCD. newline12) To derive clinical guidelines for access preparation, cleaning and shaping of endodontically treated teeth aimed at conservation of PCD. newline newlineMETHODOLOGY newlineA total of one hundred ninety extracted human mandibular molar teeth with two roots were selected after approval from ethical committee and used for this studyCrowns were resected so that a final dimension of 4 mm measured from one mm below highest point of proximal cervical line is achieved. Enamel was carefully removed with a diamond abrasive point from all the surfaces.(Fig. 14,15).The samples were examined under a stereomicroscope to ensure complete removal of enamel. newlineThe access was prepared in accordance with the dimensions of the pulp chamber and straight line access was ensured (Fig. 16).
