Life Skills of BEd Students In Relation To Their Teaching Performance

Abstract

The responsibility of Teacher Educators is to teach life skills (in addition to newlineprofessional skills) to the teacher trainees. Acquirement of life skills enhances the mental newlinehealth of teachers. Mental health is not only a personal necessity but a professional newlineresponsibility as well. This study aims at finding the relationship between Life skills of newlineB.Ed students and their Teaching Performance. Teaching Performance is the criterion newlinevariable and the Life skills- Emotional Intelligence, Stress management, Frustration newlineManagement and Conflict Resolution are the correlate variables.500 B.Ed. students from newline10 colleges of education in Madurai district were selected as sample on the basis of newlineRandom sampling. 200 of them are men and 300 of them are women. Normative survey newlinemethod was adopted to collect relevant data on Life skills and Teaching Performance of newlinethe sample. Tools of Research were structured and validated to measure the variables. For newlinedata analysis, t test, correlation, multiple regression, stanines and path analysis were newlineemployed. Results show that Teaching Performance can be predicted by each of its newlinecorrelates either separately or collectively. Recommendations indicate Teacher Education newlineprogrammes must include an intensive exposure to Life skills. newline
