Abstract: Porous materials have been intensively studied with regard to their extensive applications in various tributaries. From the family of micro porous materials, the paramount members are zeolites which have a narrow and uniform micro pore size distribution. Nevertheless, zeolites present severe limitations when large reactant molecules are involved, due to the fact that mass transfers limitations. The innovation of the M41S family of mesoporous molecular sieves brought about the beginning of a new era in the porous materials. It has opened a new way for expanding the range of uniform pore sizes from microporous into mesopore range. newlineAmong M41S family of ordered mesoporous materials, MCM-41 is the auspicious member due to its peculiar properties such as hexagonal arrangement of one-dimensional mesopores with uniform and controllable pore size in the range of 2-10 nm. By virtue of its large specific surface area, high thermal stability and narrow adjustable pore size distribution, pore volumes it has attracted considerable interest in material science, heterogeneous catalysis, molecular/supramolecular hosts, chemical separation of bulky molecules, biomedicine, membranes, adsorbents and advance composite materials and other relevant areas. newlineThe prime objective of present research study is to synthesise ordered mesoporous MCM-41, its post synthesis modification by heteroatoms and their catalytic applications in the production of fine chemicals. As well as to develop an innovative synthesis pathway for identifying the procedure which is cost-effective, facile, scalable, reproducible and environmentally friendly producing high yield using ultra sound irradiation. newlineThe thesis is divided into six chapters. newlineChapter 1 newlineIt includes general introduction, our interest, selected area of research and the reason for selection of the topic. As well as it also clarifies the status of selected topic, interdisciplinary relevance, social importance, national and international standard.
