Abstract: | Flavonoids are polyphenolic compounds having a benzo gamma pyrone structure ubiquitous in many plants They occur as free form gylcosides as well as methylated derivatives They possess a chromane ring attached to an aromatic ring that is derived from malonyl CoA and p-coumaryl CoA In the present study Quercetin and Kaempferol, the most extensively studied flavonoids that occur in almost all diets has been taken to determine the feasibility of combining the two structurally related flavonoids and testing for cancer studies Three combinations of Quercetin and Kaempferol were prepared in different ratios and these combinations were tested for in vitro anticancer activity by DPPH, total anti-oxidant and lipid peroxidation assays The best combination with significant IC50 values was selected for formulation of a suitable topical gel for skin cancer property The formulated gel was standardized as per ICH guidelines. It was then subjected to MTT assay and further to reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction for studying the mRNA expressions of apoptotic cells The in vivo anticancer activity was performed by DMBA and croton oil induced skin carcinoma assay Tumor and Skin assessments were made and the results were further validated by histopathological studies The microbial property and the anti-dermatophytic activity of the formulated gel were evaluated by well newline |
