Abstract: Aquatic ecosystem is water based ecosystem where nonliving features are its physical and chemical aspects and living features include its biotic composition. In aquatic ecosystem water, sediment and fish are linked with each other. Industries are found discharging their effluent to the aquatic environments causing serious concern over the water quality. The pollutants change water and sediment quality affecting aquatic organisms which in turn affect human health through food chain. Hazira is an industrial area and a transhipment port in the Surat district of the Gujarat state in south western India. The present study was designed with the objectives to evaluate water and sediment pollution based on physico-chemical parameters of water and sediment of Tapi estuary distribution pattern of heavy metals in water, sediment and fish, bioaccumulation of heavy metal in an edible fish as a tool to conclude environmental status and application of bioremediation technique to reduce heavy metals pollution.Three sampling sites selected were Dumas, Magdalla and Hazira located on the bank of Tapi estuary.Analyses of different physico-chemical parameters of water (temperature, turbidity, conductivity, total solids, total dissolved solids, total suspended solids, pH, salinity, dissolved oxygen, bio-chemical oxygen demand, chemical oxygen demand, nitrite, nitrate, phosphate, calcium, chloride, sodium, potassium, oil and grease and total petroleum hydrocarbon) and various newlineparameters of sediment (moisture, pH, carbon, organic-matter, nitrate, available phosphorous and total petroleum hydrocarbon) were undertaken during the study. newline
