Abstract: newline (1) newlineABSTRACT newlineThe present research work is a humble attempt to critically elaborate the a newlineCritical Study of the Problem of Illusion in Nyand#257;ya and Advaita Vedand#257;nta . The newlineconcept of illusion is misunderstanding of ideas and thoughts. It is primarily of a newlinemental quality. An illusion is the manifestation of a real object in the form of a newlinedifferent object. It is a thinking error involves an original belief; it is a perceptual fact newlineto all intents. In this stage we cannot decide whether it is this or that . So, this newlinesystem is called the stage of indecision. In our day to day life we are facing such newlineproblems. newlineThe problem of error (illusion) is one of the controversial issues discussed newlineat lenght by all the schools of Indian Philosophy. Error arises on account of the newlinedefect (do a) in the sense organ and other contributory factors; and not on newlineaccount of the non- apprehension of difference between what is perceived and newlinewhat is remembered. If nacre is cognized as silver, it is due to the defect (do a) newlinesuch as ignorance (avidyand#257;), similarly between the two objects etc. Some newlinepreliminary observations that when a person cognizes a rope as a snake or a piece newlineof shell as silver, he commits perceptual error, therefore, the first point to be noted newlineis that we are concerned here only with perceptual error, secondly erroneous newlinecognition has an objective reference. It points to an object, i.e., a snake or silver, newlinewhich a person claims to see, though the object in front is only a rope or shell. newlineThirdly, the object directly cognized as something which exists then and there. newlineFourthly, the cognition of the object is followed by a correction through the newlinesublating cognition (band#257;dhaka-jñand#257;na). At first though the object is seen as silver, newlinesubsequently it is seen in its true nature as shell. It is called the sublating cognition newline(band#257;dhaka-jñand#257;na). Thus the explanation of the problem of error to be satisfactory newlinemust take into account the above mentioned points. Thus my research work is newlinedivided into five chapters.
