Translation of selections from Rabindranath Tagore's Santiniketan with a critical introduction annotations and glossary

Abstract

This present thesis provides a translation of 50 essays of Rabindranath Tagore’s Śāntiniketan (Abode of Peace). Along with the translation of these essays from Bengali (Source Language) into English (Target Language), it also provides a critical introduction regarding the development of Tagore’s thoughts as reflected in these essays, translation methodology adopted while translating these essays, a note on Śāntiniketan, annotations and glossary. The critical introduction also includes notes on ‘Bengali Date System,’ ‘Linguistic Aspects’ such as Syntax, Italics, Linguistic Nuances in Bengali, Position of Pronoun, Punctuation, Sound, and on transliteration of Sanskrit, Pali and Bengali letters and notes on their pronunciation. Apart from those, the translation consists of annotations in the form of footnotes and glossary.
