Abstract: | To goad individuals to take up entrepreneurship as a career option awareness and intention among the potential entrepreneurs are to be determined Attitude and intention are precursors of entrepreneurial action and performance An understanding of the attitude and factors affecting entrepreneurial intention and performance including the educational background are critical in promoting entrepreneurial initiative It is essential to understand the attitude and intention among the youth who look for employment as the only career option Several studies were carried out among the engineering and management streams of students The population from the arts science and commerce streams among various types of institutions and colleges were not studied and reported in depth In order to study such over looked population of students it was decided to study the entrepreneurial attitude orientation and entrepreneurial intention among such students On identifying such a research gap facilitated to formulate specific hypotheses The sample for the study consisted of 701 respondents 178 respondents 26 percent from arts 234 33 percent from science and 289 41 percent from commerce In order to test the hypotheses appropriate statistical tools were used The study based on the results concluded that entrepreneurial attitude orientation and intention to differentiate male and female students across streams of study The socioeconomic characteristics of the households significantly influenced the intention to start a business venture The students high on achievement and commitment are more likely to take up entrepreneurial activity There is a significant relationship between Entrepreneurial attitude orientation and entrepreneurial intention show a positively significant relationship Fostering entrepreneurship among the students is possible through change in curriculum and creating awareness It is recommended that both male and female students need to be encouraged through proper counseling and guidance The institution |
