dc.description.abstract | The electromagnetic fields have a great influence on the behavior of all the living newlinesystems. Electromagnetic fields particularly have very positive properties for newlinetherapeutic applications like diathermy, hyperthermia for tumor and cancer therapy, newlinerewarming of hypothermic patients, enhancement of bone and wound healing, nerve newlinestimulation and neural prosthesis, microwave angioplasty, treatment of benign prostatic newlinehyperplasia, liver ablation and cardiac ablation. Talking about diseases, it is very rare newlinenot to hear the word cancerquot in daily conversation, it has become one of the most newlinedevastating diseases in the world. Malignant liver tumors are among the most dismal of newlineall cancers because it is the fifth most common and deadly cancer in the world and the newlinethird most common cause of cancer mortality. Among various primary malignant liver newlinetumors, hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common and accounts for 80 newline90% of all malignant liver tumors. So much good is happening on so many fronts in the newlinebattle against liver cancer from powerful new drugs to thermal ablative techniques to newlineunlock the mysteries of molecular biology research to thermal and mechanical methods newlineof tumor destruction. newlineMicrowave ablation (MWA) is a new promising and multidisciplinary technology for newlinethe treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma by delivering microwave power. A newlinemicrowave antenna is introduced transcutaneously into the liver tumor, and tissue is newlineheated up by application of microwaves to destroy the tumor. Thus accurate knowledge newlineof induced electromagnetic fields in the human body is prerequisite to further research newlinein such areas. Despite its favorable reported survival results, MWA is associated with newlinevarious unresolved problems including, lesion size limitation, undesired backward newlineheating along the antenna, and a non-spherical shape of heat lesion. To address these newlineissues various innovations have been developed in the fundamental coaxial and dipole newlineantennas. | |
