Abstract: Background: Suryavarta is a commonest clinical condition among the patients presenting to physicians with headache as a cardinal feature which is directly related with the position of the sun in the sky. According to classics of ayurveda pathogenesis of suryavarta is a result of more than one doshas. Charaka opined that rakta and vatadoshas are responsible for the manifestation of the disease where as Sushruta described it as tridoshaja disease and is difficult to cure. The symptomatology of suryavarta reveals its close resemblance with that of frontal sinusitis of varied etiology found either with acute or chronic form. Frontal sinusitis affects 14% of total population with peak incidence in the age group between 20 to 30 years and less frequently seen in children. Recurrent attacks and incomplete treatment makes it chronic. It lacks in specific medical treatment and the surgical intervention is not suitable for all of its symptoms with severity. This instills a need for ayurvedic management of suryavarta (frontal sinusitis). Bhringaraja is measured as tridosha shamaka and has bahoopayogi gunas. By virtue of its gunas which are having opponent qualities of the disease. Leaf contains Aalkaloid principle Ecliptine, major constituents are Coumestan derivates, Wedelolactone and Demthylwedelolactone about 1.6% amongst which Wedelolactone is known for its best anti-inflammatory activity. For the same reason this study was undertaken to evaluate the effect of Nasya (trans nasal administration) with fresh juice of Bhringaraja (Eclipta Alba) leaves in the management of suryavarta (frontal sinusitis). Objective: To make a comprehensive clinical study on the effect of bhringaraja patra swarasa nasya in the management of suryavarta. 1 Abstract Methodology: It is a single group clinical study of 7days with pre and post treatment design. Include subjects of age group between 15 60 years having clinical features of suryavarta like headache, nausea, heaviness of eyelids, nasal discharge, photophobia and haziness of sinuses and were administered nasya karma (transnasal drops) with bhringaraja patra swarasa and results were assessed by BT and AT. Results: The data regarding symptoms of the samples were collected and graded before and after treatment. The total score of before treatment and after completion of treatment was assessed. Comparison of before and after treatment was done with respect to different parameters by Wilcoxon matched pairs test by ranks compared mean value before and after treatment with respect to different parameters and found as headache (2.90-1.30), nausea(2.30-0.90), heaviness of eyelids(0.80-0.10), nasal discharge(2.30- 1.20), photophobia(1.10-0.40), and haziness of sinuses(1.60-1.10) respectively and correlated among different parameters with gain scores from before and after treatment by Spearman s rank correlation method and found positive for headache, heaviness of eyelids, nasal discharge, haziness of sinuses. Conclusion: Bhringaraja patra swarasa nasya administered 8 drops in each nostril for 7 days in early morning reduced the grades of parameters significantly indicating the reduction of complaints or parameters severity. Preparation, administration of swarasa by nasya karma was effortless and free from any impediment. newline
