Abstract: The thesis entitled quotSynthesis of Ferrite Magnetic Nanoparticles and their use as Catalyst for Organic Transformationsquot is divided into five chapters as follows: Chapter-I: Introduction This chapter presents a brief account of prior arts of Magnetic Nanoparticles (MNPs) and their synthesis, as well as the catalytic use for organic transformations. Importance of functionalization, stability and catalytic use in organic transformations are highlighted. Contemporary importance of the chosen aspects of chemistry selected for the present Ph. D. research provides a distinct scope of the work and much more beyond. Chapter-II: Materials, Methods and Instrumental Techniques for Physico-Chemical Studies This chapter is divided into two sections: The Section I elaborates the source of chemicals, solvents and all methods for the synthesis of nanoparticles and their composites. This section also describes a new approach for palladium incorporated CoFe2O4 nanoparticles. The Section II discusses about the characterization of structural properties of the MNPs by the FT-IR, UV-VIS, EDX, XRD measurements. The study about the morphology and topography by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and filed emission electron microscopy (FESEM) are discussed. The magnetic properties measurement by vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) and electron paramagnetic resonance spectrometer (EPR), surface area analysis by BET-surface area analyzer are involved in this chapter. The other analytical instruments used for characterization of reaction products in catalytic reactions are mentioned. Chapter-III: Synthesis of CoFe2O4 Magnetic Nanoparticles and their use as catalyst for Organic Transformations This chapter is divided into four sections as follows. Section I: Synthesis and Characterization of CoFe2O4 Magnetic Nanoparticles In this section, we describe the synthesis of spinel cobalt ferrite magnetic nanoparticles with an average sizes in the range 40-50 nm by a combined sonochemical and co-precipitation...
