dc.description.abstract | The aim of the present work was quotStudies of Dielectric and Magnetic properties of the core samples of the Tipam group from the Lakhmoni Oil Field, Sibsagar district, Assam.quot The results of the studies have been presented in this thesis written in nine chapters. In Chapter I an introduction to Geophysics and its importance in various fields have been briefly discussed. A brief review of previous works along with aims and objectives of the present works have been given in this chapter. Chapter II deals with the geological aspects of the Lakhmoni Oil Field. This Oil Field is a small satellite structure which forms an integral part of the greater Lakwa anticline located North East of Nazira in Sibsagar district, Assam (India). The area studied in the present case falls in the early Tertiary geosynclinal margin. The sandstone dominated sequence overlying coal measures and underlying Dihing group exposed along the Dihing river, was classified as the Tipam group which includes Tipam sandstone formation. It consists of coarse, gritty, ferrugenous sandstone with subordinate argillaceous bed. The rock samples belong to the Tipam sandstone formation of Miocene age. Chapter III includes brief discussion of working principles of Scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Infrared (IR) spectroscopy, X-ray fluorescence (XRF) and Elemental analysis. Theoretical aspects of electrical, dielectric and magnetic properties are also discussed. Necessary theoretical relations have been given in this Chapter and their uses have been mentioned. The experimental parts of the studies are given in Chapter IV. This Chapter describes the method of sample preparation for each study, experimental arrangements and measurement procedures for various studies. Chapter V deals with the characterization of the samples. In this Chapter, results of the studies of SEM, XRD, IR, XRF and elemental analysis of the samples have been presented. Observations from the SEM Micrographs show that the samples are composed of grains of various... | |
