Abstract: | Mental health and emotional well-being is as important in older age as in any other stage of life Old age brings special pressures unique upsets and profound biological changes People become more prone to illness and injury as they age and they are likely to experience the stress of loss the loss of spouses friends and adult children and the loss of former activities and roles Inselmann 2004 Depression is reported to be one of the most common and newlinemost reversible mental health problems of older adults The way in which individuals view and interpret the world are key vulnerability factors for the onset and maintenance of depression Beck 1995 Therapeutic intervention using CBT is collaboration with the patient teaching them skills for questioning and reevaluating negative automatic thoughts Behavioural methods are used to newlinechallenge negative thoughts through the provision of compensatory positive experiences Core beliefs are then challenged in the light of these new ways of thinking about and experiencing the world Many studies affirm the efficacy of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy in treating depression reducing anxiety symptoms and enhancement of Wellbeing Major Objectives To assess the level of Stress Depression and General Wellbeing in Institutionalized Elderly newlineTo find out the efficacy of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy in Managing Stress and Depression and Enhancing the General Wellbeing of the Institutionalized Elderly |
