Sites of interrogation issues and concerns in the select novels of Amitav Ghosh

Abstract

The present study aims to bring out the multiplicity of concerns, the density and range of issues that surface in his texts. The study intends realize the aim by identifying the issues and preoccupations by subjecting the selected primary novels for close examination locating them in the postcolonial framework. The study proposes to be a qualitative study involving close reading and analysis of the texts. The analysis of the texts will be carried out at three levels following the footsteps of Pramod Nayar in his book From Text to Theory, viz., in the first level a plot description of the text highlighting the characterization and important incidents central to the novel s concerns will be provided. This will be followed by an analysis of the text which will form the basis for the critical insights and inferences that the study will arrive at in the third stage. Ghosh s works will be scrutinized by deploying theoretical perspectives and tenets formulated by postcolonial theorists and thinkers.
