Abstract: The study was focused on the emergence and effectiveness of women leadership in urban local bodies in Haryana. The effectiveness of women s leadership specifically deals with those factors that directly influenced the effected their position and participation of women representatives in the urban local bodies. These are addressed as determinants of effective participation and effectiveness of women leadership including the functioning of the urban local bodies, attendance in the meetings of urban local bodies, nature of issues discussed by them at such meetings, support of the family, gains from new position and political aspiration of the women leaders. More and more studies and literatures are available on women leadership in rural areas and rural local bodies, but not as much as on women leadership in urban areas and urban local bodies. There was no comprehensive study on women leadership significantly on the emergence and effectiveness of women leadership in urban local bodies, even there was no comprehensive study on Haryana. So, it was very important to study what kind of women leadership is emerging at the urban local levels and what are their thoughts, perception and views about the women leadership, effective political participation, and social, economic and political change and development. The study was conducted in the state of Haryana. The sample for the collection of primary data was drawn from three districts i.e. Panchkula, Sonipat, and Jind. These districts are selected as the locale for the study because these districts represent a high female literacy rate, a middle female literacy rate and a low female literacy rate of Haryana. newline
