dc.description.abstract | The aim of the study was to explore the risk and resilience in the lives of students and investigate the impact of risk and resilience on the academic achievement and well well-being of adolescents. Adopting the cross cross-sectional design, this study involved 242 government school going students (M = 15.08 years, 50.4 % male), an equal number of parents, and ten class teachers. The tools used were interviews of mother for socio demographic information, stressful life events, maternal depression and PMK; self self-reports by adolescents on wellbeing and resilience (CYRM CYRM-R, RRM, IRRM) and teachers rated students on acad emics and classroom behavior. The students had high risk in terms of absent parent, SES, maternal depression, stressful life events, low academic skills, classroom behavior, and noisy - violent neighborhoods. Increase in risk factors was negative ly correlated with both wellbeing and academic achievement of the adolescents. Risk had more effect on academic achievement for both genders (73% in females and 51.5%in males). Students were at an average level in academic achievement and wellbeing. Resilience aided as a protective factor that mitigated the adverse effects of risk on adolescents academic outcomes and wellbeing. It had positive correlation with both academic achievement and wellbeing. This study highlights the critical role of resilience in promoting academic success and well well-being among adolescents facing risk. By focusing on enhancing resilience, stakeholders can help adolescents navigate challenges and achieve positive developmental outcomes, reinforcing the need for comprehensive resilience resilience-building strategies in both educational and community settings. newline | |
