Abstract: | Human communication became a necessity ever since man started living as a society. With the newlineadvancement of society and technology, newer methods and devices for making newlinecommunication farther and finer was developed. Man explored different regions of frequency newlinespectrum like the microwave and invented communication systems that could take messages newlineto a global level. Communication using microwaves requires certain devices or wave newlinepropagators called antennas. Antenna designers are professionals who continuously try to newlineenhance the performance and reduce the size of various types of antennas along with the newlineattempts to overcome their limitations and disadvantages. Metamaterials (MTMs) have been newlinean innovative area of contemporary research because of their unique properties that can be newlineapplied in developing better performing antennas. newlineMTMs offer a number of different materials with a wide range of differing properties that can newlinebe explored for applications in microwave and optical frequency regions. The wide range of newlinepossibilities offered by MTMs gives scope for a variety of deep investigations for developing newlinemore compact communication systems. The main inspirations behind this research work are newlinethe possibilities offered by MTMs in the design of compact antennas and the demands raised newlineby communication industry for further compactness. Hence this research work puts forward newlinethe design and development of a novel MTM structure and its application in various types of newlineantennas like monopoles and microstrip patches. The research work had two stages. In the first stage a novel MTM structure was designed, newlinedeveloped and evaluated. In the second stage this designed MTM structure and its modified newlinevariants were applied on various types of antennas for realising the intented results of newlinecompactness and multiband operation. newline |
