Abstract: | newline This thesis describes investigation of four plant species which belongs to different plant families and subjected to phytochemical screening of various plant constituents. In phytochemical evaluation, solvent extracted stem bark of Betula utilis, fruit husk of Juglans regia, dry peel of Aesculus indica and bark of Ulmus wallichiana are subjected to phytochemical screening of various plant constituents. newlineVarious secondary metabolites or phytochemical constituents like Alkaloids, Flavanoids, Phenol, Saponin, and Steroids were also assessed for different plant extract. In Betula utilis petroleum ether extract, all components were absent except saponin, in ethyl acetate extract terpenoids, flavonoids, and phenol, were present and in methanolic extract all the components were present except saponin and protein. In Juglans regia petroleum ether extract, only saponin was present but in ethyl acetate extract terpenoids, flavanoids and Phenol were present. Saponin and protein were absent in methanolic extract of Juglans regia. No yield was found in petroleum ether extract of Aesculus indica, whereas terpenoids, flavonoids, phenols, and saponins were present in ethyl acetate extract and in methanolic extract all the components were present except carbohydrates, and protein. In Ulmus wallichiana petroleum ether extract all components were absent except saponin, in ethyl acetate extract terpenoids, flavonoids and phenols have shown their presence and in methanolic extract carbohydrates, alkaloids, flavonoids, phenol, glycosides, and terpenoids were present. newlineThe fractions/elutes obtained from silica gel column chromatography were tested for the detection of various phytocompounds using TLC. The phytocompounds showing the same Rf values were pooled into a single fraction. The Rf value was compared with the standard steroids. F5 fraction of Betula utilis ethyl acetate extract (F5BU) was found to show the same Rf with one of the steroid. F8 fraction of Aesculus indica methanolic extract (F8AI) was found to show the |
