Abstract: Training is a procedure that teaches non-managerial persons technical knowledge and abilities for the purpose of achieving a certain objective. Training takes place over a relatively short period of time and makes use of a methodical and controlled approach in order to accomplish this aim. Development is an educational process that takes place over an extended period of time and makes use of a methodical and controlled technique in order for managerial employees to acquire conceptual and theoretical knowledge for general use. This knowledge can then be applied in a variety of contexts. The phrase quottrainingquot only refers to the instruction in technical and mechanical procedures, whereas the term quotdevelopmentquot refers entirely to the teaching of philosophical and theoretical educational ideas. Training is intended for people who are not currently serving in management capacities, whereas development is geared at those who already hold such positions. newline
