Abstract: | The present investigation entitled Germplasm, survey collection, evaluation of ber (Ziziphus mauritiana L.) genotypes for morphological and physico-chemical studies under eastern region of Uttar Pradesh was carried out during the year 2021-22 and 2022-23 in the Department of Fruit Science, College of Horticulture, Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology, Kanpur (UP). Forty genotypes of ber were collected from farmers fields of district Balrampur, Bahraich, Sidarthnagar, Shravasti, Gonda, Basti, Ayodhya, Sultanpur, Banaras and Prayagraj of Uttar Pradesh. Collected fruit samples were studied for quantitative and qualitative characteristics. Wide variability was recorded among the collected genotypes for morphological as well as bio-chemical characters. newlineAmong the morphological parameters leaf shape of different genotypes show a wide variation and mainly Cordate, Oval, Obovate and Elliptic shapes are found. The stone shapes recorded showed obtuse, acute, oblong and round shape. The quantitative variability of different genotypes viz., for fruit weight (5.18 to 16.27g), fruit length (2.33 to 4.13cm), fruit width (1.27 to 1.93cm), leaf length (2.53 to 4.40cm), leaf width (2.12c to 3.12cm), stone weight (0.56 to 1.58g), stone length (1.75 to 3.95mm), stone width (0.65cm to 1.43cm), stem girth (25.90 to 62.63cm) and height of tree (3.43 to 5.50m) stem girth (25.90 to 62.63cm) and specific gravity (0.70 to 1.34g/cm3). The bio-chemical parameters also showed a wide range of variation i.e., TSS (8.67 to 20.170Brix), titrable acidity (018 to 1.35%), total sugars (6.05 to 12.10%), reducing sugar (3.22 to 7.18%), non-reducing sugar (2.75 to 5.93%), ascorbic acid (66.57 to 119.90mg/100g), TSS: acid ratio (3.07 to 7.07%). newlineIn correlation studies, length of fruit was found significantly and positively correlated with fruit weight. The width of fruit analysis exhibited a significant positive correlation with fruit weight. Leaf length showed significant positive correlations with length of fruit and newline |
