dc.description.abstract | ABSTRACT newlineThe business scenario has rapidly changed with the presence of cut throat global newlinecompetition in almost every sector. The competitive business environment has raised newlineincreasing awareness to have competent workforce for business sustainability. Power newlineutility industry has evolved as one of the important contributing sectors to the growth newlineof Indian economy. This necessitates measurement of performance standard and newlinerealization of the recent practices of competency mapping and its framework aligned newlinewith organization vision and mission. The aim of the study was to explore the factors newlinethat contribute towards having effective competency mapping in power utility units. newlineSix factors i.e. Strategic Orientation , Result Orientation , Transparency , newline Management Support , Employee participation and Updated practice were newlineidentified as the key contributors for effective competency mapping. All the success newlinefactors have positive linkage and impact on employee performance. The effectiveness newlineof explored factors and its impact on employee performance were analyzed using the newlinestatistical software SPSS. The data reveals the evidence of success factors contributing newlinetowards having an effective competency mapping and its effect on performance of newlineemployees. The study identified success factors of competency mapping currently newlinebeing practiced in power utility industries and identification of gaps in the process. In newlinespite of innumerable benefits of competency mapping framework designed keeping in newlineview the work style of people in these industries, effective execution of the framework newlineis still limited. Success factors were identified by conducting factor analysis. newlineDevelopment of scale was established through a list of variables from existing newlinecompetency framework and feedback of employees related to gaps in the process. The newlinestudy deployed convenient non-probability sampling for quantitative research of 420 newlinerespondents from four captive power plants.
