dc.description.abstract | This thesis begins with the idea that strategies are important for students to effectively learn, newlineespecially when they are learning a language to become proficient in a language. Attaining newlinelanguage proficiency depends on effective language learning strategies. The learning strategies newlinemake learners proficient user of a language. It helps them to communicate effectively in both newlineacademic and non-academic situations. In the academic setting, especially at college level, the newlinesuccess of learners depends on the proficiency in writing skill. They require to produce many newlinewritten assignments, project, or thesis to achieve the learning outcomes of the graduate newlineprograms. And the proficiency in the writing skill can be achieved by applying composing newlinestrategies. Therefore, this study investigates the relationship between language proficiency, newlinewriting ability, and composing strategies in a group of college students. It also examines the newlinecollege students English language learning strategies that they use to enhance their wr iting newlineability. It also assesses the composing strategies of the college students that they apply in newlinecomposing their college assignments, projects, or thesis. A mixed method approach is applied newlinefor data collection. A language proficiency test, an essay writing test, and a face-to-face newlineinterview were administered for qualitative data collection. A questionnaire for composing newlinestrategies was conducted for quantitative date collection. The first-year students at a business newlinecollege participated in the study. The result shows that those students who utilize effective newlinecomposing strategies perform better in writing skill. newline | |
