Vulnerability assessment of pile foundation supported structure incorporating SPSI A deterministic and probabilistic approach

Abstract

Past failures of pile foundation supported structures during moderate to severe earthquake had lead earthquake professionals to develop sustainable design guideline. Seismic soil-pile foundation-structure interaction (SSPSI) is considered as an important phenomenon in seismic design as it significantly influences response of superstructure and foundation that of conventional fixed base design. On the other hand, variability of subsoil properties and ground motion influence the dynamic response of structure which makes the problem more redundant. In fact, seismic vulnerability assessment of primarily pile foundation supported structure incorporating different sources of uncertainty associated with SSPSI is important and found to be limited. In this context, present thesis attempts to assess the seismic vulnerability of pile foundation and supported structural system embedded in soft clayey layer and loose sandy deposit through experimental investigation and nonlinear probabilistic SSPSI analysis. newline
