Abstract: Migration, a complex and multi-faceted phenomenon, has long been intertwined with economic development. Haryana, with a high per capita income, attracts migrants; reflecting economic disparities and uneven development across regions drive migration. The study explores the importance of economic development on internal migration in Haryana, focusing on inter- state migration for work. It has been reflected in the high correlation observed between per capita income and respective districts inter-state migrant share for work/employment in the population. The study highlights significant socio-economic differences among inter-state migrants, intra-state migrants, and non-migrants, with inter-state migrants remitting a considerable portion of their income to their place of origin. Unskilled inter- state migrants often face poor living and working conditions, suggesting a need to protect migrant rights, especially women. newline
