Abstract: | The thesis investigates the development of a characteristic sensibility of Chandigarh as a produced space through its conception by the team of Nehru-Corbusier, its perception in terms of its representations in writings on and around Chandigarh, and its lived experience as recounted by its citizens from the centre and periphery. Chandigarh emerges as a resilient entity, resisting easy categorization as the City Beautiful or the City of Babus. The thesis also maps its continuous negotiations of survival in the phase of globalisation and post-globalisation. newline |
