Abstract: | newline The purpose of the study was to investigate the effects of isolated and combined strength and power training on selected strength and power parameters of men Mallakhamb players. To achieve the purpose of this study, sixty men Mallakhamb players were selected as subjects. The selected subjects (N=60) were classified into four equal groups of fifteen each (n=15) at random. Group-I performed strength training, group-II performed power training, group-III performed combined strength and power training and group-IV acted as control. The following selected strength parameters such as arm strength, leg strength, back strength and abdominal strength, power parameters such as elastic power, explosive power and anaerobic power were chosen as dependent variables. The data collected from the four groups prior to and post experimentation were statistically analyzed to find out the significant difference if any, by applying the Analysis of covariance (ANCOVA). Whenever the obtained F - ratio value was significant the Scheffe s test was applied as post hoc test to determine the paired mean differences, if any. In all the cases statistical significance was fixed at 0.05 levels. Due to the effect of isolated and combined strength and power training the selected strength parameters such as arm strength, leg strength, back strength and abdominal strength, power parameters such as elastic power, explosive power and anaerobic power of Mallakhamb players were significantly increased. However, strength training was much better than combined training and power training in improving arm strength, leg strength, back strength whereas combined training was better than strength and power training in improving abdominal strength. In the case of power parameters, power training was much better than combined training and strength training in improving elastic power, explosive power and anaerobic power of Mallakhamb players. |
