dc.description.abstractThe specific case of nanotechnology discussed herein merely scratches the surface of the body of information and insights available from a patent landscaping study. The deeper the study, the more tailored the analysis that can be done to address specific concerns of any particular research initiative. An efficient usage of a patent landscape provided an indispensible tool to highlight expensive and embarrassing problems well in advance. This tool also thus helps lay down a clear path for further endeavor and learning in the areas of interest. Patent landscaping was suitable for planning research in virtually any area of technology. A patent landscaping prior to planning the future research projects is now becoming a necessity for innovative and research based companies specifically in the pharmaceutical and the agrochemical sector. Patent landscaping also indicates the most efficient way to achieve research goals. Since patent landscaping is highly informative, it is an extremely powerful tool for strategic research planning. This study which was only a starting point if coupled with business research could also provide more useful insights for appropriate decision making. Patent landscape reports can be extremely useful to the business strategists and market analysts to take key decisions in new product development. The analysis can grasp various kinds of matter from these patent maps according to the objective and intention. The data helped discover relationships and trends amongst various parameters that could aid an organization into making meaningful decisions as regards to business and research. The tools were also found to be helpful in generating more information regarding competitors and their levels of activity. The interpretations of the analytical results would definitely help any organization to react more correctly to the changes in the market and to develop effective strategies that would be more consistent with reality. newline
