Abstract: Electrical motors consumes around two thirds industrial power, amongst them induction motor constitute upto seventy percent of loads. Induction motors are extremely reliable, robust and efficient with low maintenance. They are preferred in high power industrial drives. Downtime of these motors affects the productivity of the plant or process the uses of these motors. The financial loss due to failure of electric drives is huge and major concern in mining and manufacturing sectors due to loss of production. Modern drives involve use of high power electronic circuits and the control is automated. Further digital technologies are used extensively for control of the power electronics and also for automation. This has resulted in more possible failure modes in industrial drives, thus causing of threat of reliability. A simple failure of control systems or any device in the power electronic converter leads to shut down of entire plant, resulting in huge losses. newline
