Abstract: | Despite significant development in radiotherapy techniques current evidence is unable to provide adequate guidelines for the management of radiation dermatitis The study aimed to characterize and evaluate the safety and efficacy of polymer blended thin film impregnated with Ai extract PBTFAi in breast cancer patients with radiation induced moist desquamation and compare the same with conventional Gentian violet GV soaked wet dressing and health related quality of life of patients HRQOL were assessed PBTFAi was characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy FTIR scanning electron microscopy SEM atomic force microscopy AFM thermogravimetric differential scanning calorimetry TGDSC swelling index protein adsorption tensile strength antimicrobial efficacy human dermal fibroblast HDF proliferation and calcein acetoxymethyl ester CalceinAM staining and its clinical efficacy and safety was assessed It was a prospective interventional parallel group outcome assessor blinded randomized controlled study that included 151 patients PBTFAi relative to the plain polymer blend thin film PBTF revealed a significant polymer by Ai blending, appropriate morphological characteristics exudate/protein adsorption thermal stability tensile strength and sustained HDF growth and proliferation further fulfilling the cytocompatibility requirement for an ideal wound dressing. PBTFAi dressing showed a better outcome of wound healing with the impact of reducing pain superior rates of re epithelialization and improved HRQOL compared with gentian violet PBTFAi demonstrates its potential to be developed as an ethical plant bioactive based wound dressing The best moist desquamation healing properties were seen for PBTFAi dressing compared with the GV dressing newline |
