Abstract: | ABSTRACT newline A Sociological Study of Divorce Among the Assamese Community in Guwahati City, Assam . newlineThe aspect of terminating marriage is one of the aspects that have been common in all of the communities as well as all over the nation. Divorce is a legal aspect, and thus the steps that are being taken to terminate a marriage are similar in all communities. It has been seen that the causes of the termination of marriages are also followed by similar aspects under the court of law (Rattra, 2022). However, the perception regarding divorce has a vast range of differences between the people of the urban societies in Assam as well as the rural and tribal communities. It can be realized that the perception regarding divorce has been more urbanized in the cities like Guwahati while the rural places have a lesser acceptance pertaining to divorce and thus the impact of Divorce is extensive. It has been seen that traditional beliefs tend to cater to making compromises in a marriage and do not accept the causes of divorce as valid. It has been seen that the people who are the permanent residents of the rural regions of Assam fall under the category of Schedules Caste as well as scheduled Tribe, and the laws that are constitutional in the nation are implemented on these two categories of the population as well (Damota 2019). Therefore, it can be stated that the customary laws, as well as the traditional knowledge pertaining to the aspect of Divorce, plays a major role in the lives of the tribal community and their marriages, while the aspect that majorly impacts the marriages of the urban population is majorly dependent on the constitutional laws. newlineStatement of the Problem newlineIn the era of globalization, the entire world is going through changes drastically from all aspects be it in the fields of science and technology, commerce and trade, education and health so on and so forth. All these changes have also brought an impact on the lifestyle of people both individually as well as in the institution of family as a whole. |
