Abstract: | Endodontics, primarily aims at maintaining the chain of complete asepsis newlineduring treatment procedure to prevent bacterial contamination of the entire root newlinecanal system. The cleaning and shaping of root canals eliminate bacteria from the newlineinfected pulp space; whereas meticulous three-dimensional root canal obturation newlinehelps to prevent root canal reinfection for the success of endodontic treatment.1 newlineMalmberg L et al. (2019) reviewed operatorand#8223;s knowledge regarding establishment newlineand maintenance of asepsis in endodontics and emphasized standardization of newlinedisinfection and aseptic procedures. Hence, it becomes imperative that all the newlineinstruments and materials used during endodontic treatment, need to be free from newlineany sort of contaminating microorganisms.2 newlineOriginally Gutta Percha (GP) a plant product is gold standard material, newlinewidely used for obturation since 1867. It is a trans isomer of polyisoprene, a newlineproven obturating material known for its dimensional stability, biocompatibility, newlinethermoplastic and antimicrobial properties.3 However, Moorer et al. (1982) newlinereported quotdepotquot effect of the zinc oxide particles present in GP cones imparting newlineantimicrobial which may be too weak to be effective. GP cones containing newlinemedicaments are new on the market and in-vivo studies are needed to evaluate its newlinetoxicity, antibacterial and antifungal effects.4 newline |
