Abstract

The role of the media as a pillar of democracy has been growing stronger in recent times. This study explores the influence that social media has on the participation of young people in political processes, with a particular emphasis on the state of Punjab. It highlights the transformation of the media as a source of information for the common people, from the post-liberalization era to the present. As a result of the expansion of social media platforms, there has been a discernible change in the manner in which youth interact with political discourse and participate in elections. The emergence of new political narratives and issues sheds light on the shifting societal values and ambitions of the youth. This involves examining demographic variables, social media usage patterns, and the perspectives of political leaders from different regions of Punjab. It offers insights regarding the intricate relationship between socio-political factors and technological advancements. Moreover, it delves into the impact of the widespread use of social media on forthcoming democratic processes, emphasising the need for diligent and transparent use of this digital tool. newline
