Abstract: | In recent decades, regional economic disparities within the state of India have arisen, particularly after liberalization of the economy since 1991, which has led to rise in demand for creation of smaller states. Inspite of the fact that in past 75 years, postindependence, several new states were created on the grounds of regional imbalance and backwardness like Haryana, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Telangana etc. still newlinedemand keep coming up from many other states like Vidarbha (MH), Maru Pradesh (Raj.), Karu Nadu (North Karnataka), Gondwana (MP) Poorvanchal (UP), Bundelkhand (UP). So I under took to do my dissertation to analyse socio economic factors for such demand and whether creation of smaller States will be beneficial for the country as a whole. newlineThe present study used various data at the state and district level available in the public domain which is more often used by the researchers. The study has laid emphasis on newlinethe re-organization of the states, creation of smaller state. With these objectives in mind, the study chose a few important socio-economic indicators like per capita income newlinehuman development index MPCE schools, health centres, roads electricity, housing, drinking water facilities etc. These are used to describe the regional imbalances. newlineThis study will help in deeper understanding of regional economic disparities within newlinevarious large states a need for creation of new smaller states. The formation of smaller newlinestates on the basis of the status of development (regional imbalance, regional newlinebackwardness) could be one of the priorities of the Government of India. Uttarakhand, newlineJharkhand, and Chhattisgarh were formed in 2000 and Telangana in 2014 based on their newlineregional status of development. They are growing faster compared to their parent states and contributing to national development. All the delegated districts that fall under the region of Gondwana, Vidarbha and Karu Nadu are underdeveloped in terms of per capita income, education, health, housing, road connectivity. |
