Abstract: | Travel demand model is a planning tool that provides a systematic framework for newline newlinerepresenting travel pattern so as to forecast future travel needs. The traditional four- newlinestage travel demand modeling is widely utilized for transportation forecasts, which newline newlinerequires precise values for the variables and parameters involved. It is well known newlinethat traffic pattern as well as travel time even in a smaller time window vary but newlineusually repeats itself on a broad scale. So it is appropriate to model these variations newlineusing fuzzy logic. The objective of research is to develop a four-stage trip based newlinetravel demand model in fuzzy environment. In classical travel demand modeling, the newlinetrip generation predicts the total number of trips originated by each zone of the study newlinearea. Modeling of trip generation is usually done using multiple linear regression newlinemethod. This type of modeling requires precise values for the parameters involved ie, newlineaverage income, residential density, average level of vehicle ownership etc. which newlineis difficult to get in the practical situations. Hence a model which can incorporate newlinevagueness/impreciseness in the parameters involved is developed here. newlineTraffic counting location problems plays a key role in describing the number newlineand locations of traffic counting stations for Origin-Destination matrix estimation. newlineThe reliability of the estimated O-D matrix from traffic counts depends much on the newlinequality and quantity of the available input data, which in turn depends on the number newlineand locations of traffic counting stations. Most of the proposed traffic counting newlinelocation models in literature requires prior travel demand for each O-D pair, called newlinetarget O-D matrix, which is a priori best known matrix or an estimate of O-D matrix newlinefrom sample survey. Screen-line based approach is used for developing models for newlinethe case where no target O-D matrix is available. newline |
