Abstract: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disease characterized by elevated levels of blood glucose due to impaired insulin secretion and variable degrees of peripheral insulin resistance. The current available therapies are not able to reverse hyperglycemia completely because of their limitations and side effects. The antidiabetic effects of several plant extracts, herbal formulations, polyherbal formulation and their bioactive components have been identified and characterized. Polyherbal therapies are much safer comparatively because of low dose combination of different drugs and multifarious actions which may act synergistically to provide optimum effect. Phytosome improves gastrointestinal absorption, entrapment efficiency, stability profile and bioavailability of the herbal drugs. It has been found that number of anti-diabetic polyherbal formulation contains Momordica charantia (MC), Andrographis paniculata (AP) and Withania somnifera (WS) as the major components with other herbal drugs. The aim of the present study is to design and develop antidiabetic phytosomes of MC, AP and WS. Objectives: To develop a standardized polyherbal and phytosomal antidiabetic formulation and its evaluation for the management of DM in streptozotocin-nicotinaminde (STZ-NA) diabetes-induced rats. newline
