A rapid and substantial increase in temperature in the winter polar newlinestratosphere associated with a complete reversal of the westerly winds is recognized newlineas sudden stratospheric warming (SSW). The tropical stratosphere exhibits the newlineannual minimum temperature when the polar stratosphere reaches its highest newlinetemperature. It indicates the existence of strong coupling between the low and high newlinelatitudes associated with SSW. The studies show that the SSWs are not only focused newlinetowards high/mid-latitudes, but also its effects can extend to low latitude newlinestratospheric and tropospheric fields. This promising observational evidence inspired newlineus to investigate the influence of SSW on tropical weather systems, especially over newlinethe Indian subcontinent. newline
