Abstract: | The aim of the research was to investigate antianxiety activity of Thalictrum foliolosum roots and newlineShorearobusta resin and to conduct bioactivity guided fractionation studies on the most bioactive newlineextract to isolate anxiolytic principle. Plant drugs were selected on the basis of their traditional newlineuses in the treatment of nervous disorders. Extensive literature survey revealed that no newlineantianxiety reports were available on T. foliolosum and S.robusta. Therefore, it was considered newlineworthwhile to carry out systematic investigation on the selected plants for evaluating their newlineantianxiety potential. The selected medicinal plants T. foliolosum roots and S. robusta resin were newlinecollected from Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) and Siswan (Punjab) respectively and authenticated newlinethrough Botanical Survey of Indian, Dehradun. The plant parts were extracted using petroleum ether, newlinechloroform, ethanol and water. The percentage yield of successive extracts of both plants obtained as newline(T. foliolosum pet ether (2.40%), Chloroform (6.93%), Ethanol (12.48%), water (10.52%) and S. newlinerobusta - pet ether (5.1%), Chloroform (4.02%), Ethanol (44.85%), water (4.49%). Pharmacognostical, newlinephysicochemical and phytochemical screening along with florescence behavior of both plants were newlineperformed as per standard procedures. The outer surface color of root of T. foliolosum was brown and newlineinner surface appears as yellow with strong aromatic odour and bitter taste. The Transverse sections and newlinepowder microscopy of roots showed cortical parenchyma, lignified pitted vessels, cork cells and newlinescalariform vessels. The physicochemical characters of root showed 4.66% moisture content, 1.9 % total newlineash and highest extractive value observed with acetic acid (36%) amongst other solvents. The newlinephytochemical screening of the extracts showed the presence of steroids in pet ether extract and alkaloids newlineobserved in chloroform and ethanol. Tannins, flavonoids saponins also present in T. foliolosum root. S. newlinerobusta resin is irregular dark brown color resin with no odour and taste. The |
