dc.description.abstract | Polymorphous light eruption (PMLE) is a major skin disorder primarily caused due to solar radiation and / or artificial ultraviolet (UV) light intended to severe damage to human skin. Evidences suggest that role of oxidative stress plays important role in PMLE progression. Till date, very less information is available regarding the etiology of oxidative stress and free radical scavengers in patients of PMLE; particularly in India. The present research work is an effort to investigate the impact of extrinsic factor particularly the sun exposure and nutritional deficit particularly antioxidants leads to various skin disorders particularly polymorphous light eruption (PMLE). The present study was undertaken to investigate the effect of oral antioxidant (and#945; tocopherol) supplementation on oxidative stress markers in patients with photo aggravated skin rash. The present study was carried out on 50 cases (both male and female) of age group 25 to 55 years attending the out patients department (OPD) of dermatology, Swaroop Rani Hospital, Moti Lal Nehru Medical College Prayagraj. The subjects were categorized into three groups with normal control group (healthy volunteers), second group is diseased group with PMLE disease and the third group comprises, treated group with oral vitamin E supplementation (Evion trade name of tocopherol acetate/400 mg/OD/7days). The whole blood sample was collected and stored in -200C for further analysis. The various antioxidant factors were analyzed including; lipid per oxidation, total antioxidant, Superoxide dismutase (SOD), Catalase, Glutathione (GSH) and compared with normal control. The findings demonstrated that 29.8 % increase in serum MDA level in PMLE control as compared to normal control group. newline | |
