Abstract: This work investigates the photo-detection properties of metal oxide thin films newlinesynthesized using the spray pyrolysis technique and how to enhance these properties newlinealong with the possible development of a highly sensitive and fast responsive newlineoptoelectronic device using the deposited film. These points are discussed chapter newlinewise in the thesis as follows- newlineChapter 1: newlineThis chapter of the thesis comprises the necessary introduction to the problem and a newlinesupporting literature survey linked with the present study. This chapter involves newlineintroductory information regarding metal oxide materials and the newly emerging newlineconcept of photodetector. The metal oxide materials used for photodetection are also newlinediscussed along with the advancement in enhancing the photodetection properties of newlineit. Furthermore, a literature study is done regarding the use of various metal oxide newlinematerials for photodetection applications. newlineChapter 2: newlineThe present chapter explicates detailed information about the materials, synthesis newlinetechniques, photodetection measurement setups, and characterization techniques used newlineto study the metal oxide thin films materials. newlineChapter 3: newlineThis chapter summarizes the analysis of the synthesized ZnO thin films along with the newlineresults of the photodetection characteristics of pure ZnO thin film deposited using the newlinespray pyrolysis technique. The I-V measurements taken on the film in dark and UV newlineillumination are discussed in detail along with the theoretical analysis to confirm the newlineconduction mechanism. The photo-switching and real-time photoresponse newlinemeasurements done on the device are also discussed in detail. The enhancement of the newlinephotodetection properties via surface passivating the film with polyvinyl alcohol was newlinealso tested and discussed in detail along with the mechanism in ZnO thin film. With newlinethe help of the literature, our findings are confirmed and compared. newlineChapter 4: newlineThis chapter provides the results on the photodetection characteristics of pure and#61537;-Fe2O3 newlinethin film before and after surface passivation with polyvinyl alco
