Abstract: Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAH) with carbon distribution in range of C14 to C60. newlineThe mineral base oils have wide variety of applications ranging from lube oil, transformer newlineoil, circulating oil, quenching oil, metal working oil, cosmetic oil and medicinal grade newlinetechnical white oil. To meet various stringent requirements, the mineral oils are traditionally newlineacid treated with hot oleum. The alternative routes are the adsorption over acid clays or the newlinehydrogenation of mineral oils. newlineThe present study addresses the practical approach for the kinetic and safety analysis of newlinehydrogenation of mineral base oil. Since the mineral base oil is complex mixture, certain newlineassumptions are considered and validated in this work. The selected grade of mineral base oil newlinewas C20 rich with 14% (w/w) of PAH and it requires PAH below 5% (w/w). The literature newlinesuggested that the C20 rich PAH has 26 different variants out of which Perylene is most newlinedominating molecule. This forms the basis of practical approach for kinetic analysis of newlineselected mineral base oil. newline
