Abstract: | The descriptive design process has effectively presented the data related to the newlineinnovative practices that are implemented in Government secondary schools in newlineKarnataka, divisionwise and assessed them in an effectual way. A well-structured newlinequestionnaire with Likert scale of agreement was used to collect the opinions of the newlineteachers in relation to the Innovative practices in Government schools and their newlineimpact on academic performance. The sample size resulting from the Cochran newlineFormula of Known population where the size of the population was Population - newlineN=36,023. According to the formula, the sample size was calculated at 468 teachers at newlinea confidence level of 95 percent with an error margin equal to (0.05). By rounding off newlineand availability of data collection n=500 respondents were selected for the study. The newlinetools of analysis used were the composite reliability and average variance extracted newlinewhich measured the validity and reliability of the questionnaire. ANOVA and newlineABSTRACT newlineThe Department of Primary and Secondary Education has undertaken numerous newlineinitiatives to enhance the standard of education in the state, with over 77,000 schools, newline103 Crore students and 3 lakhs teachers. Karnataka School Quality Assessment and newlineAccreditation Council (KSQAAC) directed a review in 2018 and reached a resolution newlinethat, once more there was low quality in 1020 Government schools. The structure of newlineoperations of the schools is very segregated in nature. There is lack of motivation for newlinestudents which has reflected in poor performance. The Government schools have very newlineacute need for improving learning conditions to solve these problems. Innovation in newlineeducation is what educators worldwide are proposing to adopt in secondary education newlineto solve dwindling numbers and improve learning. There is no uniform functioning of newlinerules and regulations which create an atmosphere for the execution of innovative newlinepractices in the secondary education in Government schools in Karnataka. Due to the newlinelack of adequate capital, training to teachers could not be provided in an adequate newlinemanner so that they could use new technologies to impart quality and innovative newlinelearning to the students. Thus, there is a need to study the innovative practices adopted newlineby teachers, in special reference to Government secondary schools in Karnataka. newlineTherefore the researcher aimed to study the Innovative Practices in Secondary newlineEducation in Karnataka . newlineindependent t-test was used to analyse the differences in opinions of the teachers with newlinedifferent demographic and work profiles. Factor analysis was performed to reduce and newlinegroup the variables under factors influencing innovative practices. newlineThe findings of the study revealed that Post Graduate teachers have Higher mean newline(Usage) of the innovative practices as compared to the Graduates + B.Ed. , Teachers newlinewho have above 15 yearsand#8223; experience used less innovative practices as compared to newlinebelow 5 years experienced teachers. The study revealed that in majority of cases urban newlineschool teachers have used more innovative teaching practices as compared to rural newlineand semi urban. newlineThe study recommends to the teachers that better innovative practices can be used to newlineenhance academic development of students. As teachers are relying upon the newlineheadmasters and internal sources for sources of innovative practices, it is newlinerecommended that teachers can evaluate the practices that are used in other schools newlineacross various geographical locations. Teachers who have not completed their post- newlinegraduation can join executive programs which enhance their knowledge and expertise newlineon the subjects. Experienced teachers who are not well equipped with technology can newlinejoin FDP, Workshops and Seminars to enhance their innovative skills. Initiatives newlinetaken by teachers in implementing innovative practices were positively impacted to newlineacademic performance, therefore teachers need to self-motivate and train themselves newlineto incorporate innovative practices. The school authority should present a report to the newlineGovernment requesting to provide facilities for the schools to enhance innovative newlineteaching practices. newlineThe current study is limited to Government schools and secondary education in newlineKarnataka only, so there is scope to study Non-Government schools, or innovations in newlineprimary education which can make students to get a strong root in learning methods newlinewhich should make the learning at secondary levels easier and enjoyable. These are newlinebasic requirements for effective learning apart from facilities, role play, and safety etc. newlineIn future, researchers can explore innovative practices for various levels of education newlineand various subjects. newline |
