Abstract: This thesis is a comparative study of the works of James Baldwin, one of the revolutionary writers of America, and Alice Walker, a well-known and Pulitzer Prize-winning writer. This thesis is a comparative study of select novels by James Baldwin and Alice Walker in the context of postcolonialism. It is possible to gain important insights into these two novelists works and their respective literary contexts by comparing and analysing them with postcolonialism. Both writers have had a huge impact on postcolonial literature, though they are not primarily postcolonial writers. newlineThe first chapter of this thesis is entitled Foundation of this Research, which includes the writer s biography, their literary contribution, Methodology, objectives, and expected outcome of the study. newlineThe second chapter of the thesis is entitled as Postcolonialism: An Analysis. This complete chapter is dedicated to the historical background of postcolonialism, important themes of postcolonialism, important critiques, and postcolonial literature from other countries. newlineThe third chapter of this thesis is entitled The Novels of James Baldwin: A Study. This particular chapter is dedicated to James Baldwin only. It analyses select novels by James Baldwin and their relevance to postcolonialism. The novels taken for consideration are Giovanni s Room, Go Tell It on the Mountain, Just Above My Head, and Tell Me How Long the Train s Been Gone. newlineThe fourth chapter of the present thesis is entitled The Novels of Alice Walker: A Study. In this chapter, prime attention is given to the postcolonial study of the select novels of Alice Walker. The selected novels in this chapter are The Colour Purple, Meridian, and The Temple of My Familiar. Important themes of postcolonialism are extensively used in her novels. The Fifth chapter of this thesis is entitled as A Comparative Study of James Baldwin and Alice Walker.
