dc.description.abstractEnglish the language of the British Raj acts as the Second Language newline L2 to people in India Though it appears to present problems to learners even newlineafter 12 years of their exposure to it at the pre university level of education it has newlineto be learnt by all the learners because it brings them not only fame and name but newlinealso better career opportunities Two of the most significant constructs that seem to newlineinterfere in the learners acquisition of L2 are anxiety and reticence Psychological newlinecauses are observed to play a pivotal role in increasing the levels of such anxiety newlineand reticence in learners the alleviation of which would ensure the effective newlineacquisition of L2 This has set the need for the present study newlineThe current research is divided into three levels a descriptive research newlineB experimental research and c post experimental research The objectives of the newlinepresent study are to find out whether a there is a statistically significant level of newlineanxiety and reticence in the target learners b there is an impact of gender and newlinelanguage background on the levels of anxiety and reticence c there are major newlinefactors that induce anxiety and reticence in the focus group learners d instigating newlinetasks neutral stimulus and systematic desensitization lead to the alleviation of newlineanxiety and reticence in the learners and e there are classroom strategies that can newlinebe adopted to help the target learners overcome their psychological barriers newline newline
