Abstract: Chetan Bhagat was born in New Delhi in a Punjabi family, on 22nd day of April 1974. He was a bright student, he took admission in Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), where he did his bachelors of engineering. After this he did MBA from Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad in 1997. He worked as investment banker for eleven years and than he shifted towards writing novels. Chetan Bhagat is the author of bestselling novels Five Points Someone (2004), One Night at the Call Centre (2005), The Three Mistakes of My Life (2008), 2States (2009), Revolution 2020 (2011), Half Girlfriend (2014) and One Indian Girl (2016). Chetan Bhagat also delivers speeches at programmes organised by corporates, educational institutes, newspapers and media houses like Dainik Bhaskar and The Times of India and at other conferences apart from writing columns for the same. newlineMost of Bhagat s themes revolves around love, religion, corruption, and ambition through which he tries to discuss about the controversial issues or the burning issues such as changing trend in education, natural calamities, human disaster, religious disparities, depressed state of mind and suicide attempts which are prevailing in the attitudes of different characters in the the social cultural context of the narratives in the early 21st century. He uses simple language, deal with the lives, incidents and psyche of the new generation. The writer belongs to middle class and writes about same which makes them popular among the mass readers. newlineIn the present research work Chetan Bhagat s novel are analysed on the basis social, psychological and cultural issues. Chetan Bhagat presented contemporary issues of youth which hamper them on social, psychological and cultural grounds. The function of literature is to entertain and instruct, author presents what is the main aim of literature that is to represent the actual portrait of the people and the society.
