dc.description.abstract | Additive manufacturing, first invented in 1980 in America is one of the revolutionary newlineachievements in the area of digital manufacturing. There are numerous advantages of newlineadditive manufacturing such as customization of design and complex structures that newlinecan be manufactured within a minimum time. Additive manufacturing finds a variety newlineof areas of application like aerospace, medical, construction, etc. Amongst various newlinetechniques, Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) is widely accepted by researchers and newlineengineers for the fabrication of prototypes and end-use components. In FDM, the newlinepolymer material in the form of filament is distributed on the platform without fixtures newlinethrough layer-by-layer deposition.Unwound from the coil, the filament is fed to the newlineextrusion nozzle. The material is heated to the standard extrusion temperature newline(normally below the melting point) by the extrusion head. The semi-molten material newlineis deposited in the build platform (which moves on Z-axis) whereas the extrusion head newlinemoves in two directions i.e., X-axis and Y-axis. The feedstock filament which is used newlinein FDM can be extruded through the screw extrusion process. During the screw newlineextrusion process, the addition of reinforcements can result in the imp newline | |
