dc.description.abstractIn Chapter I, an introduction and literature survey of the CDs, new family member of Carbon newlinenanomaterials, and their applications is given. Further, the sensing applications of CDs with newlineprominence on synthetic routes, the effect of various synthesis parameters on physical newlineproperties (quantum yield, size range), detection mechanisms, and detection parameters (limit newlineof detection, interference, etc.) have been discussed. In this chapter Particularly, the scope and newlineprogress for the detection of potential water contaminants using CDs have been explored, and newlinea holistic view of the mechanisms of their detection has been included. The work has been newlinedivided into three major sections; the firstsection provides a retrospective overview of different newlinesynthesis methods of CDs. The second part provides detailed effects of different synthesis newlinemethods and reaction conditions (temperature, time, pH, pressure, solvent, and doping atom) newlineon the morphology, size range, solubility, and quantum yield (QY) of CDs. Finally, the third newlinesection focuses on the different sensing mechanisms and applications of CDs for water newlinecontaminants. newline
