Neuroprotective Effect of Luffa Cylindrica Linn Fruit against Ozone Induced Neuronal Damage in Experimental Animal Model

Abstract

Luffa cylindrica (L.), also referred to as loofah or sponge gourd, is a medicinal plant belonging to the Cucurbitaceae family. The objective of this study was to explore the bioactive components present in the ethanolic extract of L. cylindrica, contributing to an improved comprehension of its potential medicinal attributes. The complete fruit of L. cylindrica was gathered, dried, pulverized, and then subjected to ethanol extraction using the Soxhlet technique. Gas chromatography mass spectrometry analysis was utilized to evaluate the secondary metabolite profile of the extract. The examination revealed 18 metabolites in the ethanolic extract and 168 metabolites in the alkaloid-rich fraction. Retention time, peak area, and mass spectra interpretation were utilized for the characterization of the extracted compounds.
