Abstract: First of all, I want to mention about the Ph.D. topic entitled quotA study on Socio-political Participation of Tribal People of District Poonchquot was chosen by me because I belong to this district, and it is very comfortable for me to conduct the research work easily. So I conducted my all process regarding research study of Poonch district. Poonch district has a very long and rich history because of its location, landscape, climate, society and culture. An erstwhile princely state, Poonch has witnessed many historical events and has been ruled by foreigners and locals at different junctures till it became a part of India. Around 850 AD, Poonch became a sovereign state when Nar- a horse trader, declared himself Raja of Poonch. In 1596 Mughal King Jahangir nominated Siraj-ud-din of village Kahuta as Raja of Poonch. In 1798, a Gujjar leader Rooh-Ullah-Sangu became the ruler of this area. From 1819 to 1850 Poonch remained a part of Khalsa Darbar, Lahore. In 1850 Dogras captured the Poonch fiefdom. Raja Moti Singh laid the foundation of Dogra Raj in Poonch. On the death of Raja Jagat Dev Singh in 1940, Sardar Abdul Qayoom Khan became ruler of Poonch under the orders of the Kashmir Government. newlineStatus of Tribal People in Poonch District of Jammu and Kashmir reveals that Scheduled Tribe is the backward section of the society. Jammu and Kashmir (JandK) in one of the most disturbed states of India. It is facing serious socio-economic and political problems ranging from terrorism to its underdevelopment, both of which adversely affect women. But, the tribal community of Jammu and Kashmir is an exception to such measures and provisions as the same constitution grants special status to this state, because of which the tribal s of JandK are not entitled to the benefits granted to tribal s of other states. Poonch district has a very long and rich history because of its location, landscape, climate, society and culture.
