Abstract: | The title of my thesis USES OF NEW HETEROGENEOUS CATALYSTS FOR THE SYNTHESIS OF FINE CHEMICALS justifies the synthesis of some oxide and polymer supported heterogeneous catalysts and their application for the synthesis of some fine chemicals. The synthesized catalysts were applied in several organic reactions like primary organic carbamates, N-substituted ureas, diaryl urea, diaryl ketone, benzimidazolones, N-phenyl formamides, 1,2,3-triazoles synthesis, oxidation of substituted methyl benzenes and acylation of benzyl alcohol. I have focused on the synthesis of a specific type alumina, polystyrene, chloromethylated polystyrene supported heterogeneous catalysts because they are thermally stable and remains unaffected in several reaction medium. This supports can be functionalized and modified according to reaction requirement and nanoparticles/metallic salts can be grafted on their surfaces. The excellent binding ability of the above said supports helps to hold the active site of the catalyst throughout the reaction progress so that catalytic activity remains intact for several reaction runs. The research works were performed for a time of four years and six month in the Department of Chemistry, University of Kalyani. Kalyani, Nadia, 741235, W.B., India under the supervision of Professor Sk. Manirul Islam. The thesis has been organized entirely by me and I have done my optimum to present the references to these resources. The thesis is divided in eight chapters. Short outline of the chapters are offered below. Chapter 1 describes about the general discussion of different types of catalysts, their application, and classification of porous materials and literature study of some catalytic reactions that have performed during my research work. Chapter 2 represents description of different instrument that are used for characterization of newly synthesized novel catalysts. The details of every instruments and their working procedure are also provided in this chapter. |
