dc.description.abstractnewline The leaves of the Mangifera indica, stems and leaves of the Cucumis sativus and leaves of Annona squamosa were collected and authenticated. The materials were shade dried and powdered to sieve 80 sizes. To meet the quality standards, the dried powdered materials were subjected to various quality control parameters. They were first evaluated by organoleptic characterization using parameters like appearance, color, taste, odour and texture, followed by physicochemical evaluation. newlineData indicate that methanol extracts of Cucumis sativus and Mangifera indica showed more inhibition as compared to petroleum ether and chloroform extracts. IC50 values clearly indicate that MECS showed higher -amylase inhibition (IC50 value- (IC50 value- 50 value- , PEECS (IC50 value- , PEEMI (IC50 value- CECS (IC50 value- , CEMI (IC50 newlinevalue- 50 value- 50 value- CEAS (IC50 value- newlineThe acute study of extracts on blood glucose in normal fasted rats showed that that PEEMI, CEMI, PEECS and CECS unable to produce hypoglycemic effect. MEMI and MECS at dose of 100 mg/kg produced hypoglycemic effect at 6 h after its treatment. MEMI at dose of 200 mg/kg and 400 mg/kg, p.o. produced significant hypoglycemic effect at 4h after treatment which persisted marginally up to 6h (77.15±1.84 and 79.24±2.09 blood glucose level respectively; 75.65±1.88 blood glucose level by GLB) (Table 4.9 and 4.10). MECS at dose of 200 mg/kg and 400 mg/kg, p.o. produced significant hypoglycemic effect at 4h after treatment which persisted marginally up to 6h (75.64±2.95, 68.45±1.84 and 73.47±2.88, 67.28±1.88 respectively; 80.34±2.11 and 72.40±1.86 by GLB). There action is similar to sulfonylurea category of synthetic drugs i.e. glibenclamide or glyburide which decreases blood glucose in normoglycemic animals. Extracts of AS (CEAS at dose of 400mg/kg, MEAS at dose of 100mg/kg and MEAS at dose of 200mg/kg, MEAS at dose of 400mg/kg) also produce hypoglycemic in normoglycemic rats up to 6h (86.54±1.94, 78.35±2.18 and 71.40±1.23, 70.50±2.33 respectively an
